I forgot to include a photo of the Communities for a Healthy Bay, Bay Patrol boat when I wrote about that a few weeks back. Here it is, and as far as I know they are still looking for someone to run these patrols!

We are still learning the ropes around yacht club reciprocal moorage use. The problem in Deer Harbor may have stemmed from a lack of staff. The marina was closed over the weekend – we get that, it’s still off-season. There were no instructions on the Yacht Destinations database (a tool for club members to find other clubs to visit), and no one answering the radio. So, we just pulled into an empty spot and decided to sort it out on Monday. They were good with what we’d done, and then told us they don’t have Deer Harbor reciprocal moorage space in summer. That might be good information to have in the database! Just like it would be nice to know that the space in Friday Harbor is taken up by winter long-term moorage vessels. (They say it is still open because rafting is allowed. When we were there, neither boat at that dock had fenders out, so not a welcoming proposition for anyone wanting to raft.)

After Deer Harbor, we went to Fisherman Bay (Lopez Island) to take advantage of yet another reciprocal opportunity. The Lopez Island Yacht Club has space at the Islander Resort. We don’t usually choose this marina, preferring to anchor in good weather, or stay at Islands Marine Center if we need a dock. It was fine, and we’re likely to do that again during shoulder seasons.

So, five nights for free! (Except for $5/night [Canadian!] at Capital City YC.) The annual membership fee of $100 for Squalicum YC is a bargain!

We stayed just one night in Fisherman Bay because the weather was going to change. We made our way back to Skyline yesterday, spent the afternoon power-washing the boat, and hit the road this morning.

Stopped at Fisheries in Seattle for a few items, then stopped at Fonda la Catrina in Georgetown for lunch.

We look forward to more boating in April. In the meantime, we have a small gathering at the McQuarrie cabin this weekend to celebrate some birthdays, and then I and one of my sisters will visit our aunt and uncle (and cousins) in Kenai, Alaska.
