We decided to skip Cornet Bay and Deception Pass State Park for now. Instead we headed to La Conner this morning to stay at reciprocal moorage offered by the Swinomish YC at the La Conner Marina. This one is just $5 for the first night. Yacht club membership is the gift that keeps on giving!
Town is super busy because of the tulips!
We had a pretty relaxed and rainy day yesterday in Coupeville. We had dinner at the Front Street Grill. My gnocchi was excellent and Nick enjoyed his mussels.
We were entertained for just a few minutes when about 200 common mergansers decided to fish in unison in the shallows near shore. It was quite spectacular to watch, and even better when they got spooked and took off in one tightly packed group.

Must remember the Little Red Hen Bakery for next time. Delicious scones with a unique texture….rustic comes to mind. This one is my cranberry and rosemary, very delicious, and Nick had a ham, cheese, and scallion. Also picked up a sourdough loaf. Nice spot.

Black turnstones along the dock:

We did get in a couple of walks, further in both directions than we’d been before. These are a couple of shots of the famous Penn Cove operation:

It was overcast when we left the Coupeville Wharf this morning. Sunny and gorgeous right now in La Conner.
