We’ve been “stuck” in Vancouver at Quayside Marina – great facility but very poor internet and lousy cell service, so I am catching up now.

Anacortes

We’ve boated through Guemes Channel and past the Secret Cove restaurant in Anacortes many times, so Thursday afternoon (May 30) we finally gave it a try. Great view; wonderful mussels! (Tasty blackberry & ginger cider.)

Friday morning (May 30) ToG made a quick trip to the Skyline fuel/pump-out dock to prepare for departure. I checked on the Valkyrie Viking boat I mentioned in my 4.11.2024 post. Her mast is in place and she now has decorative fixtures installed. Coincidentally, the latest issue of the Waggoner newsletter has a story about this boat. Read it here.

After we returned ToG to her dock, we drove to La Conner to hang out with the Aris crew and wait for the mixer valve part. It arrived at the AT building around noon so we grabbed it and returned to Skyline.

We weren’t planning to depart but the afternoon was nice and it seemed prudent to get some miles behind us while we had the chance. We untied and headed for Jones Island. As has been the case before, there was no room. We turned around, went back to Deer Harbor and dropped anchor for the night.

Nick installed the valve and…no leaking!

After pulling the anchor Saturday morning, we set course for Vancouver B.C.  Crossing the Strait of Georgia was relatively smooth.

We met up with Aris at the Quayside Marina in False Creek.

Ran into Sandra on the dock, aboard American Tug Adios. Sandra and Merv live in a condo across the street and keep their boat at Quayside. They have no car. What a set-up! A true urban lifestyle.

The weather is atrocious! I’ve had plenty of opportunity to wear my new RainCaper:

We’ll most likely be here a bit longer than we planned, waiting for better weather to continue north.

Yesterday (Monday June 3), we all bundled up and ferried/walked to Steveston Marine & Hardware and Granville Market. Weather was a bit better than Sunday. Nick and I had dinner at Fanny Bay Oyster Bar & Seafood Market, a tradition now, I guess. Delicious as always. One thing that makes this place a little different from other oyster bars – they serve horseradish along with the mignonette and lemon. Yum!

This morning (Tuesday June 4) we woke to more rain. It let up so we made a quick trip to Costco. I’m now doing laundry at the office, and where there is a good signal.

Our slip is adjacent to one of the harbour’s ferry docks – the Yaletown stop. It’s fun to watch them come and go. We’ve seen a young couple, each running their own boat, meet and catch a couple of smooches on the dock, as well as a couple of captains dancing as they waited for riders.

We’re also next to the superyacht After Eight. You know you’re in the land of luxury boats when all you see is a wall of white next door.

Thought I would take a moment to remind y’all of this current trip. We are headed to the Broughton Archipelago, north of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. We have been as far north as Desolation Sound, but this is our first time venturing further north. We met Mike and Deb Hibbs (and their cute little dog Willow), aboard Aris (a boat like ours) last summer. The four of us decided to make the Broughtons our main new destination for the summer of 2024. We plan to take our time, exploring this new-to-us territory over the next four to six weeks.
