It seems everyone we talk to is lamenting the un-August-like weather. But, as one of these people stated, “You have to be somewhere when it rains.” True. Might as well be boating.

We had a lovely couple of days with friends Steve and Tracey in Gig Harbor. Before they arrived, and before it began raining in earnest, I got one paddle in.

This seal certainly didn’t mind when I got close:

Other than that we hung out – cooking good food, drinking good (and not-so-good) wine, watching the usual Gig Harbor sights: canoe and kayak clubbers, dragon boat paddlers, little sailing club boats, and one of the gondolas:

We said goodbye to our friends (who had driven to GH to join us) Saturday morning and made the short trip into the Pt. Defiance marina to pick up our daughter Sierra and her guy Brian. (They parked at our nearby condo.) The four of us cruised up to Poulsbo yesterday to find ourselves in the middle of a pirate rendezvous. People in costume and Jolly Roger flags flying. Live music (three different bands on the dock!) played until after ten pm, punctuated now and then by canon fire. Argh.

A guy (not a pirate) had this fun remotely operated vessel gliding around the marina. It played music!

We woke to more rain plus fog, but it’s clearing. Thankfully, pirates sleep late.
