I enjoy watching working boats. Here are some more photos of the Canadian Coast Guard’s Cape Naden, stationed in Ganges.

As they went out the other day, I stepped out the door to snap a photo. Here’s the gist of the ensuing conversation:
Captain: I like your boat.
Me: I like yours.
Captain: Want to trade?
Me: Yes, may I take it for a spin? (No direct answer to that!)
Captain: Yours probably has a better stocked bar than mine.
Me: Boxes of wine.
Captain: Works for me!
The weather remained pretty good but the wind definitely picked up on Saturday. It was a very busy day at the Kanaka Wharf docks, as visitors flocked to the outdoor market. Little boats in and out constantly, jockeying for position, in choppy seas.
We did get a paddle in before the breeze kicked up and I spotted this wonderful sea slug:

One of the old unloved boats in Ganges Harbor is the old Sea Horse tug. (Maybe someone loves it but it definitely fits the definition of derelict: in very poor condition as a result of disuse and neglect.) Just off the stern you can see another old tug in the background. This thing just gets worse and worse each year. Someone actually lives on this one. It is mostly covered in tarps now.

We hoped to get to Sucia Island this trip but with weather forecasted to turn to rain, Sucia just doesn’t fit. We’re headed to Roche Harbor instead.
We arrived at Roche, pumped out, found our slip and tied up…as it began to pour. Just in time to hunker down and tune in to the Mariners game. Better weather tomorrow.
