Wednesday, Mike and Nick moved Aris from Quayside Marina to the False Creek Yacht Club. For several reasons, one of which was the harsh treatment from the other Dick (Richard) regarding our dinghy. Then yesterday, Mike moved from the yacht club linear dock to the open slip next to us.
We didn’t know about the Celebration of Light until we talked with FCYC dockmaster Richard. Even then we did not understand what a big deal this is! Three provinces, Yukon, Quebec, and Nova Scotia, on three separate days. On Wednesday, it was Team Midnight Sun from the Yukon. During the day there were food trucks on the waterfront, then an airshow by the Snowbirds – The Royal Canadian Airforce’s 43 Air Demonstration Squadron. A drone show began at 10pm, followed by fireworks at 10:30. Mike got a seat in the yacht club’s lounge (on the third floor) and we met him up there for the show. We couldn’t see the drones very well but most of the pyrotechnics show was visible…and spectacular! The airshow was impressive as well.
Unfortunately, Deb was unable to join us as she flew out earlier that evening to support her ailing mom.
The number of boats/SUPs/kayaks/etc. moving out of False Creek and into Burrard Inlet to watch the show was astounding. Here is a photo I took early in the evening showing boats anchored in the inlet and a slew of SUPs:

It was a steady stream of vessels of one kind or another, including human-powered craft, tour boats, runabouts, and superyachts.
This floating tiki bar looked like fun:

Willow was not interested in the show:

The whole thing will happen again on Saturday with another team.
Yesterday, we took a nice bike ride around Stanely Park and ate at our usual fish and chips spot, Go Fish, at Fisherman’s Wharf.
Due to windy weather, we will stay one more night, with plans to head across the Strait of Georgia tomorrow morning, bound for Wallace Island.
