Our 28nm cruise from Gig Harbor to Poulsbo was very smooth and we pulled into the Poulsbo Yacht Club just around noon. We’d not stayed here before and decided to give it a try. It is a short walk into town but the $156 cost saving is worth it. Plenty of reciprocal space and a nice facility. Boats are not allowed to tie up to the outside of the breakwater, where the reciprocal moorage it located, so the view over Liberty Bay is unimpeded.
The new breakwater at the Poulsbo Marina is impressive – no wonder the moorage price hike.
The Viking boat Valkyrie has gone by a couple of times:

It’s hot. Our walk into town Sunday was sweltering. A few degrees cooler now. Took a nice paddle up toward Fish Park Monday morning. Lots of seals around.

We’ve been perfecting our foil packet grilled meals lately. Monday night’s was a yummy chunk of salmon, one packet of potatoes with onion and garlic, and another with previously frozen broccoli. Broccoli got slightly mushy but overall, everything was delish! A fairly easy and healthy boat meal.

I want to give a shout out to the owners of Longship Marine in Poulsbo, a community resource for new and used marine equipment and supplies. We’ve been frequenting this store for over ten years, since before they moved into their current location. I really don’t know anything about them but every time we visit, the place gets a little better. We remember it as a lot of disorganized junk. No longer. Even since the last time we were here, which was a year ago, things have improved. They’ve rearranged parts of the store and it seems much more organized, less jumbled. More variety and just a lot of cool stuff. And some “floor model” deals. Got a great Ignik Propane Growler for the RV. Kudos to them.
Speaking of Poulsbo proper, there are a few other things of notice going on. Looks like the roof of the main area is getting rebuilt/replaced, so there is a lot of construction going on. Also, there is a new, large kitchen store, Culinary Viking. It’s huge and seems to have everything.
We grabbed drinks and dinner at the Brass Kraken yesterday and then headed over to the park for music. Despite signs in town advertising music on the water front at 6pm on Tuesdays in July and August – there was no music.
Really Nick? A Tall Boy Heidelberg?

We fueled up this morning, diesel and dinghy gas, grabbed apple fritters at Sluys, and are enroute to Port Townsend.
One more nod to the Poulsbo Yacht Club. A very nice experience, one of our best reciprocal stays yet. You can stay up to 4 nights, twice per quarter. $5 the first night and $.50/ft. subsequent nights. What a bargain!
