We took a short hike on one of the Lagoon Cove trails.

Notice the bear spray in my pocket:

Deb also has Bear spray but hers is in cool holster:

We left Lagoon Cove for Port McNeill, taking the more southern route through Clio Passage, as we were told we’d have a better chance of seeing wildlife.
We were not disappointed! Two humpbacks, Dahls Porpoise, and a few sea otters. One of the otters had a tiny pup with it. We were busy watching and didn’t get photos, but Mike’s Relive video shows the porpoise:
After arrival at Port McNeill, we pulled up to the fuel dock to top off, and then headed into the marina. We took a short walk to the IGA for a couple of ingredients for our crab tostadas. This recipe is from Laura Domela’s (Slowboat) post here.
I can’t believe I didn’t get a photo of our tostadas…they were excellent!
I did get this photo, however, of a wee mink running around the dock this morning. We saw these in Lagoon Cove as well, and were told that they are every bit as bothersome as we consider river otters. Messing up the docks and leaving food remains everywhere, stinking up the place…and boats.

It’s supposed to be a bit stormy, which is one reason we decided to cut over to Port McNeill for a couple of days. Plus, more fuel, pumpout service, and provisioning.
