We pulled in to a near-empty Kanaka Wharf (Ganges, Salt Spring Island) on Thursday. The local boats vacated their over-wintering docks on May 1, and this season hasn’t quite kicked off, so plenty of space. The weather has been very nice, if a bit breezy at times.

Aris joined us and the four of us had dinner at Moby’s. Ganges is always fun for us and we shopped, walked around, ate, drank and were merry. There was a total of five ATs in the harbor, ToG, Aris, and Tonka at the wharf, and Make It So and Peregrine next door.

Saturday, ToG departed Ganges for Port Sidney Marina, and Aris for their home dock at Van Isle Marina. There was a Fluid Motion (manufacturer of our first two Ranger Tugs) gathering at Port Sidney so we were lucky to get the one opening they had for the night. (Fun to catch up with the Ranger guys!) More beautiful weather.

We decided to meet back up with Aris, as their plan was to visit Tod Inlet and Buchart Gardens, one of our all-time favorite destinations. The inlet was fairly empty when we arrived yesterday so anchoring was a breeze.

Great kayaking as usual, and a lovely trip to the garden.

A riot of peonies
Some of the last roses
Unfortunate, but maybe not for the sea star
Nick & Deb kayaking near Aris

Something new: these small boats leaving from the Buchart dock and touring Brentwood Bay and Tod Inlet. Seems like a nice added excursion for visitors.

Tomorrow ToG will head north again, while the Aris crew will make their way home.

The things you can get close to when kayaking…
