We attended our two oldest grandsons’ “moving up” celebrations, Mac from Kindergarten to first grade, and Ren from Transition Kindergarten to Kindergarten. A highlight was Ren jumping off the stage and doing “The Worm” dance. No one saw that coming!

We loaded The Motterhome and spent Friday night at the McQuarrie Cabin along with my eldest sister and a couple of her neighbor friends from southern Oregon. Caleb and the boys joined us for a clam feast. (Note to selves: Don’t eat the Purple Varnish Clams! They’re invasive! They’re yucky!) Hot that day, then the wind picked up and blew all night.

Yesterday, our 40th wedding anniversary, we drove a very short way from Vaughn to Belfair to stay in our first Hipcamp designated RV site. I was looking for a one-night stopover on our way up the Olympic Peninsula and all of the state parks were full, so I decided to give Hipcamp a try. Basically, we stayed in someone’s yard in the woods. The site was clean and nice, with full hookups, and very quiet. Not bad for an overnight stay.

Nick and I bought a couple of good bottles of wine several years ago from Woodward Canyon Winery, near Walla Walla – one of our favorites. We’ve been saving them and decided our 40th was a pretty good reason to open one. This was a 2018 Artist Series #27 Cabernet Sauvignon. Quite good. One of those robust and hearty Washington reds that we are particularly fond of.

On our way today we stopped in Hoodsport to walk around and have lunch at The Fjord Oyster Bank. (We’ve eaten a lot of seafood recently!) Grilled oysters, fried oysters, and clam chowder. All delicious. It’s a beautiful day on Hood Canal – very busy with open crabbing season.

Fun fact: Hood Canal is not a canal at all but a natural fjord.

We are now at Skokomish Park at Lake Cushman, formerly owned by the City of Tacoma and now by the Skokomish Tribe. It seems like a good place, however, today is Father’s Day and the day-use area is a zoo. The campground is filling up as well, so we’ll see what our stay is like.

Just for fun, here is a picture I took a couple of days ago of our favorite roomie Finlay, who is currently hanging out in a hotel room with his daddy while his mommy is working at the mammoth dig in Richland!
