The weather didn’t hit until we were on our way under the Narrows Bridges on our way back to Gig Harbor. I think the first time we’ve boated with thunder and lightning. Pretty wet but it cleared nicely the next day. Unusual summer storm.

We were very excited to have made plans to get our oldest grandson, Mac, aboard for an overnight visit on the boat. Unfortunately, he was sick and unable to join us. Very disappointing. Fortunately, we have some time planned soon to have him join us in The Motterhome.

Because of that change in plans, we decided to head north on Saturday morning. Before we left, we got to board Dawson, the Devlin Sockeye 45 belonging to a former colleague of mine. They had pulled into the harbor the day before, on their way home from a trip to Alaska. They departed in early April, so that was a long trip! The boat is gorgeous!

We cruised up Colvos Passage to Blake Island, luckily finding dock space on a busy Saturday. Another beautiful day.

We talked with Ranger Tarr about the coming changes to this State Marine Park. #2 Rustic Retreat seems to have won the vote out of the four proposed options – by a landslide it seems – and should be formalized this fall. This plan basically keeps the island the way it is right now, but with a redesigned and deeper marina. Word is that there will be at least some reservable slips under this plan. Tillicum Village will be demolished. Permits and planning will take a couple of years, and construction a lot longer so the ranger is guessing maybe close to a decade before we see the results.

We are now in Eagle Harbor, Bainbridge Island. We planned to anchor but as we pulled in Nick asked me about reciprocal moorage. Low and behold, we do have reciprocity with the Eagle Harbor Yacht Club, at the Winslow Wharf Marina. We were able to pull into a vacated slip for the price of their $7 facility fee.

We haven’t decided for sure where we are going tomorrow, but we are very near Kingston, and you know what that means! Crab (hopefully) and pizza!
